The Parish Choir

2025 Choir Photo.jpeg

We have a long-standing tradition of high-quality choral music, with a broad repertoire spanning over 500 years of church and cathedral music.

The Parish Choir is a mixed four-part choir, made up of choral scholars, lay clerks and choristers. They sing each Sunday at our High Mass, at our monthly Choral Evensong, and at various festival services throughout the year.

Our choir is always open to people of all ages, backgrounds and experience in singing choral music. Some knowledge of singing and reading music is useful, but not essential, and we can teach you what you need to know! Our latest music list linked here will give you an insight into the kind of music we sing.

The choir follows a standard academic term from early-September to mid-July, with a short break after Christmas and Easter each year. The normal weekly schedule is:

Weekly Rehearsal:  Thursdays – Choristers, 7-7.45pm

                                              Choir and Choral Scholars, 8-9.30pm

Sunday High Mass:  rehearsal, 10-10.20am;  service, 10.30am

Sunday Choral Evensong (the first Sunday of the month):  rehearsal, 4.30-6pm;  service, 6.30pm

We do understand that not all singers will want to commit to being available every week during the academic year; however members of the choirs are expected to make a commitment to regularly attend rehearsals and services, particularly leading up to big festivals like Christmas and Easter

In addition to this, the choir usually sings for the following festival services throughout the year:

  • Advent Carol Service (on Advent Sunday, instead of December’s Choral Evensong)

  • Nine Lessons and Carols (Christmas Carol Service, usually on the last Sunday in Advent)

  • Midnight Mass

  • Epiphany Carol Service (depending on when Epiphany falls)

  • Ash Wednesday

  • Maundy Thursday

  • The Easter Vigil (and Easter Sunday morning)

  • Ascension Day

Are you interested in joining us?

We are always interested to hear from potential new recruits – both novices and experienced singers; experienced singers unable to make a regular commitment to being part of the choir may also wish to speak to us about joining us just for the monthly Choral Evensong and occasional larger services.

If you would like to find out more please contact Antony Matthews, our Director of Music, or our Choral Outreach Lead via the email music@carshaltonallsaints.org, or you are welcome to speak to them or another member of the choir after any of the sung services.
